Ashanti didn’t just mentor a dozen lucky “American Idol” contestants on Sunday night’s episode — she made sure to set a good example for them onstage.
After sharing advice with 12 of the Top 24 contestants from this season, the R&B star performed a medley of her hits, blending the songs “The Way That I Love You” and “Foolish.” The performance took place at Aulani, the Hawaiian Disney resort and spa where the Top 24 contestants will vie for the votes of “Idol” viewers on Sunday and Monday night.
When “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest asked Ashanti what impressed her most about this season’s contestants, she said: “All of their stories, all of their passion and where they come from.”
“The talent is just through the roof, and they have a purpose,” she added.
Singer Josh Groban will appear as the guest mentor for Monday night’s episode, when the other half of the Top 24 contestants will face off at Aulani. Both Ashanti and Groban worked alongside “Idol” artist-in-residence Jelly Roll, who will provide contestants with tips and encouragement throughout the season.
