Actor Sri, known for his remarkable performances in films like ‘Vazhakku Enn 18/9’, ‘Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum’, ‘Vil Ambu’, ‘Maanagaram, and ‘Irugapatru’, has recently made headlines for his drastic physical transformation and concerning social media posts. Once a vibrant personality, recent photos show him with a frail body, unrecognizable face, and hints of emotional distress. These changes have left fans and the film fraternity deeply worried, prompting conversations about his well-being and mental health.
From energetic performer to isolation
In a chat with Trend Talkies, Dottie David shared that Sri began his career as a mimicry artist before stepping into films. Post ‘Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum’, he became increasingly introverted. Though he stayed in touch with a few close friends, he began avoiding public spaces altogether. Dottie recalls that he wouldn’t pick up phone calls and distanced himself from even simple social outings. His short stint on Bigg Boss also reflected his inner conflict — he exited the show early, unable to cope with the environment.
A director at heart, but life had other plans
Sri had long harbored dreams of becoming a director rather than just being in front of the camera. After ‘Maanagaram’, he had even completed a script. However, setbacks like not receiving remuneration for ‘Vil Ambu’ and alleged non-payment from Bigg Boss further affected his morale. He openly admitted to being under treatment for depression and, according to his friend, was diagnosed with schizophrenia, a condition that alters perception and can create false realities, much like portrayed in ‘Mayakkam Enna’ or ‘A Beautiful Mind’.
Not addiction, but deep emotional scars
Contrary to rumors, Sri was never addicted to drugs or alcohol, according to Dottie. He merely smoked cigarettes and followed a strict vegetarian diet. His struggles stem from emotional trauma, isolation, and mental health challenges including a heartbreak in his teens that left a lasting scar. His current condition is a combination of years of unspoken pain and lack of emotional support.
